Defining A Next-Generation Sustainable Resort Community Rasaland, a unique development company based in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, contracted with IDEAS to help define what a next-generation sustainable resort community should be at their site in Mexico. Chalacatepec (Chala), a coastal agricultural live/work/play community approximately 120 km south of Puerto Vallarta, encompasses 8,500 pristine acres comprised of Pacific Ocean beach, rolling hills, and rolling agricultural farmland rich with coconut, mango, and papaya.

Chartered with defining the brand and driving master planning and design, IDEAS Innovation is using our brandRing system to create the definitive guest/resident experience for the property. The process began with a two-day StoryJam and site familiarization in which a diverse group of stakeholders came together to author the narrative that will support the distinctive development programs for the property. The IDEAS StoryJam is a tested and highly efficient method for creating an action plan built on a solid narrative foundation, and once the story-work was completed and processed, IDEAS then began the process of Experience Design. The Experience Design work creates a detailed program that is audience-centered. It visualizes the conceptual attributes of the community, and articulates distinctive experiential elements that define the master plan and inform architectural and engineering design-development.

IDEAS is teamed with YPartnership, a leading travel and lifestyle marketing firm, in the development and action planning for the Chalacatepec site. The brand development work was driven by the StoryJam narrative with refinements derived from YPartnership’s proprietary qualitative and quantitative research. Once complete, Chalacatepec will be an industry-leading example of sustainable, profitable lifestyle development and set the pace for the next decade.
