Hill-Rom Total Care eLearning
Chicago, IL
Hill-Rom, Inc. is a leader in providing safe and effective healthcare products for both patients and caregivers.
After IDEAS developed two courses for the VersaCare A.I.R. bed, Hill-Rom returned to us to develop two more courses to educate caregivers on the importance of preventing immobility-related complications.
The Hill-Rom TotalCare Connect bed is a medical device that hospitals use worldwide, primarily in intensive care units.
When staff use it within protocols and practices, the bed’s Progressive Mobility™ therapy features help prevent and treat immobility-related complications. These are costly, both in lives lost and in dollars.
Hospitals consider multiple factors when measuring complication prevention:
- Reduction in length of stay (LOS)
- Reduction in number of ventilator days
- Reduction in total hospital costs
- Delay in pneumonia onset
- Decrease in standard mortality rate
The TotalCare Connect bed also helps avoid caregiver injuries when used properly.
That proper use is where our course development was crucial for Hill-Rom.
IDEAS E-Learning Solution
This custom-designed, self-paced, interactive e-learning tool educates the Hill-Rom sales force, customer service and technical support staff on how to operate the bed correctly.
However, the primary audiences are existing and prospective customers:
- Registered nurses
- Unlicensed clinicians
- Hospital staff
Our tool instructs audiences on how to use the bed’s features to deliver safe, effective care to immobile patients. We designed it to be a 30-minute e-learning experience that allows caregivers to take it in one sitting or over several sessions.
The combination of instructional design, art and programming and a rich, relevant story creates a valuable learning environment. In turn, it leads to fewer patient risk factors and caregiver injuries.
Before we created the tool, Hill-Rom representatives delivered the instructions face to face in hospitals at a high cost. As hospital employee turnover increased, the cost of delivering in-person training became restrictive.
This Hill-Rom e-learning tool from IDEAS was the solution!
IDEAS Learning and Hill-Rom received a coveted Brandon Hall gold award for excellence in the Custom Content category for the course.
