IDEAS was recently given an award “for the development of an innovative and comprehensive hurricane preparedness program for children” for their work on the Kids Get a Plan campaign for the Florida Division of Emergency Management. The IDEAS team was recognized during an awards ceremony and luncheon during the Governor’s Hurricane Conference in Orlando, FL.
“We started our work on the Kids Get a Plan campaign more than ten years ago with three books to achieve a goal of helping kids deal with natural disasters. To see where it has grown since then is tremendous,” Shirley Decker, EVP, Business Development for IDEAS said. “The Florida Division of Emergency Management has allowed us to be a part of the on-going campaign and has been a great collaborative, creative partner allowing us to continue to innovate, while staying true to the original core story and we’re honored to have been recognized for this work.”
The Kids Get a Plan campaign began in 2003 with children’s books for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. From there the characters from each of the books were the core of an interactive website including activities, audio versions of the books, live character appearances, additional books for 4th and 5th graders, touch-screen kiosk games, mobile applications, portable displays, PSAs, and much more. The campaign has touched every person at IDEAS in the ten plus years in production.
“To look back at where and why this campaign started to where it is now and what it has become, is something we’re very proud of,” commented Sr. Producer Charles Moore. “It’s rare to have a conversation with a client where they ask ‘what can we do next?’ and our team works on new concepts, presenting them back and continuing to take the campaign and characters to the next level. It’s been over ten years and we hope there’s another ten years to come.”
