Coalition for the Homeless Men’s Service Center
By Shirley Decker
The Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida broke ground on Friday on its Central Boulevard campus for a new Men’s Service Center to replace its current Men’s Pavilion, a nightly drop-in shelter with a community dinner meal. The new two-story, residential facility will enable the Coalition to truly serve one of the most underserved segments of the homeless population – homeless men. Construction is anticipated to take 13 months.
“This month marks our 25th anniversary and what better way to celebrate than to break ground on this new Men’s Service Center,” said Coalition President/CEO Brent A. Trotter. “Today, we take a giant leap forward in becoming a world class community as we uniquely position ourselves to assist homeless men as never before….to meet them where they are.”
Capital funding support from the City of Orlando and Orange County Government, totaling $6.6M allowed the Coalition to move forward with this critically-needed project. I am proud to serve on the Marketing Communications Committee as we continue to share with the community the vision and mission of the Coalition.
