IDEAS Hosts Entertainment Industry Legislative Update
By John Lux
IDEAS recently hosted an Entertainment Industry Incentive Program Legislative Update with Women in Film & Television – Florida. The forum included a panel discussion with IDEAS Chief Operating Officer John Lux, Sheena Fowler, Director, Film & Digital Media for the Metro Orlando Film Commission, and David Caserta, Film Florida Government Relations representative.
“This is an important time for the TV, film, and digital media industries in Florida,” says John Lux, COO for IDEAS. “Florida has a tremendous history in the entertainment industry and the industry wants desperately to build on that legacy, and in order to do so we need some help from State Legislators. Many of us have spent the last 6+ months working to educate legislators on what the program means to the state, this night was to inform the Central Florida production community of where things stand, and what they can do to help.”
The audience of close to eighty people consisted of various production crew, actors, lawyers, digital media artists, and people from various business that aren’t directly involved in the entertainment industry but are positively influenced by it. The event started with the panelists updating every one of the efforts throughout the state to bring a funded incentive program back to Florida. There was close to 45 minutes of questions and answers from the audience, and more than 30 people recorded video testimonials that are being used as part of the social media campaign for Film Florida.
