Christmas in Paradise

Christmas in Paradise

Miami-based Dolphin Entertainment called on IDEAS to do the high definition edit and post production audio for its movie, “Christmas in Paradise”, for Lifetime. The video process included HD conform and final color correction while the post audio process included Foley, sound design (sound effects editing), dialogue editing, pre-mixing, final mix, and layback. Also included were post supervision and domestic delivery to Lifetime and international delivery of the two hour movie.

Written by Matt Dorff and executive produced by Dorff and Bill O’Dowd, “Christmas in Paradise” was produced by Island Heat Productions, Puerto Rico, LLC. Set in Puerto Rico, the movie featured Colin Ferguson from “Eureka” as Dan Casey and Charlotte Ross, who stared in “NYPD Blue” as Dana Marino. The movie follows the Caseys and Marinos as they take family vacations for Christmas. The Caseys, Dan and his daughters Blair and Nell, get away for Christmas to help ease the emotional loss of the girl’s mother, Madeline Casey, who abandoned the family earlier in the year. Meanwhile Dana Marino takes her sons Chris and Michael away for Christmas to help them deal with the loss of their father, who died earlier in the year. The two families meet up and despite a rough start and an unexpected visitor for the Caseys, they learn to enjoy each other’s company and realize, with the help of the magical, musical Three Kings, the true meaning of Christmas.

The movie was shot entirely in high definition in Puerto Rico. The off-line editing was done in the Miami area. Upon completion of the off-line, the locked picture and all audio elements were shipped to IDEAS From there, the locked picture media was digitized into the Avid DS Nitris. Transitions and credits were added and color correction was accomplished with the help of the Teranex ClearVue color correction monitoring system. Finally, separate standard and high definition versions were made to accommodate the appropriate aspect ratios. At the same time, the audio elements were broken out for each area of post production. The movie went through Foley, sound design, dialogue editing, pre-mix, final mix, and layback. The post production process at IDEAS Studio was completed over a four week period.
