InterGenetics, Inc
IDEAS developed a patient education suite of communication materials and training tools for InterGenetics® Inc. as part of the launch of the OncoVue® Breast Cancer Risk Test. Due to advances in medical science, the OncoVue® test now enables women to know their lifetime chances of developing breast cancer by analyzing their own DNA as well as family history and personal lifestyle factors. This is an important breakthrough since 90% of women who get breast cancer have no family history of the disease. The fact is; all women are at some level of risk for developing breast cancer.

As part of an intentionally designed patient experience pathway developed by IDEAS and InterGenetics®, tools have been developed including patient information brochures, posters, and interactive content available on request at breast care centers or through referring doctors. The interactive content includes a portable tablet so patients can view these materials while waiting at their local Breast Cancer Risk Testing Network location. Patients can access the content at home on a CD-ROM and on the OncoVue® web site. Both platforms provide information about breast cancer risk, the OncoVue® test, understanding each person’s unique test results, and what women can do to increase their vigilance once they know their level of risk in an engaging and user-centric presentation that takes as little as 10 minutes.

The patient education suite extends beyond just the needs of the patient and also includes a Referring Physician’s Guide and accompanying CD-ROM, a waiting area informational DVD program, and an interactive training and orientation program on CD-ROM for both office staff and patient counselors at the breast care centers that will offer the OncoVue® test. The objective was to create a compassionate and consistent patient experience starting with their introduction to OncoVue®, through determining an appropriate plan of action with their doctor. This includes sharing the other stories of women as they consider taking the test and respecting a woman’s right to not want to know.

IDEAS developed the entire OncoVue® patient education suite including the design theme and backstory as well as writing and producing all the print and interactive content. IDEAS also leveraged the tablet technology to provide InterGenetics® with tracking information about patient viewing preferences and a future wifi capability to update the program content remotely.
