The Florida Division of Emergency Management partnered with IDEAS to create www.floridaevacuates.com websites, mobile device apps and mobile website. In the event of an emergency this, first-of-its-kind tool, provides Florida’s citizens with Emergency shelter location and status information, along with videos on how to prepare for all types of natural and man-made hazards. FloridaEvacuates.com is Florida residents one source of evacuation shelter information on the web at home and on the phone.   To engage families in the preparation process we will also provide a whole house Emergency Supply Kit.

Mobile Apps and Games

The mobile website is accessible by all mobile devices with wireless internet access. A downloadable mobile phone application is included with access to the Mobile Website. In the event of an emergency citizen are directed to Florida Evacuates, on the web or a mobile device to locate an open, near by, emergency shelter. Using the auto GPS or entering basic location information such as a zip code or complete address, will generate a list of nearby shelters.  Once a shelter is selected users can display and print turn by turn directions from their present location to the selected shelter. Additional information includes:

  • Shelters Locator: Locate a nearby emergency shelter by GPS location, zip code, or physical address. Shelter information is pulled from the Red Cross National Shelter Database.
  • Florida 511: Real-time traffic information, travel times, congestion, construction, severe weather, and emergency evacuation information.
  • National Weather Service: View the latest satellite and radar images from the National Weather Service.
  • Shelter Information: Answers to: Should I stay, or Should I go? What to take and not take? What is an evacuation zone?
  • Preparedness Videos: Learn how to be prepared in the event of an emergency from hardware store owner Dorothy James.
  • Web Links: Links to other information from sources such as the FEMA and the National Weather Service and Kids Get A Plan.
  • Mobile Device Apps: Citizens with Android, Blackberry and iPhone mobile devices can install the free Shelter Locator.
