It’s a given that patients want quality, safe healthcare that is affordable and accessible. IDEAS has interviewed well over a thousand patients, caregivers, and clinicians and from these stories and observations we have gleaned a robust picture of what else patients truly want from their providers. It’s our belief that those healthcare organizations that take heed of these findings will have a decided advantage in the coming years. We have delineated nine steps along that path. Interestingly, only one pertains to clinical intervention. The success of a healthcare organization in the other eight depends in large part on the training of their staff and how consistently they create a positive, authentic relationship with patients, the degree to which the organization’s systems are designed with the patient’s positive experience as their primary goal, and, in a broad sense, aesthetics.
