Rick has developed several successful programs for teaching patients, their families and medical professionals how to bring the practical applications of storytelling into their therapeutic work. Under the auspices of the StoryWork Institute, which he founded in 1993, Rick has developed training programs for team building, leadership development, and diversity training for organizations and healthcare institutions. Rick is also the author of three books: The Healing Art of Storytelling, Stories: The Family Legacy, and The Kingdom of Nowt, as well as the publisher of the award winning board game Pitch-A-Story. A key member of the StoryJam™ team since 2003, Rick is the StoryAnalytics Master for the IDEAS Innovation team and is currently developing StoryCare™, an innovative program for driving behavioral change among staff to improve patient safety and satisfaction. In his time at IDEAS Rick has been instrumental in some innovative and meaningful projects including Walter Reed Army Medical Center, American Red Cross, and Novant Health.
