Virgin Galactic Gateway to Space at Spaceport America

Virgin Galactic Gateway to Space at Spaceport America

Today Team IDEAS, in the persons of Tom Cordova from CMG and me, attended a major press event at Spaceport America. Sir Richard Branson and his Virgin Galactic team rolled out the WhiteKnightTwo and SpaceShipTwo craft and flew a great exhibition pattern over the 10,000 ft Spaceport America runway.  The spacecraft is beautiful-even parked!

The dedication was held for the Virgin hangar and mission control facility, to be officially known as The Virgin Galactic Gateway to Space. It was an incredible day of optimism and energy attended by hundreds of people who have worked on the project, government officials, partners and about 140 people who are Virgin Galactic “Astronauts”- people who have paid $200K to fly into space.

We knew this project was going to be challenging and incredibly stimulating. Being here today, I have a much greater sense of the importance of our part of the mission— designing an engaging way for 200,000 visitors a year to come here, feel part of the adventure and leave knowing they live at a time when everyday people can and will fly in space. Tomorrow we go back out for a vendor day and meet the people behind private space exploration.
